Walking in the Rain
Steve walks at least a mile every night. I join him about once a week. Several days ago, it struck me that it was very foolish not to walk with him every night. Besides the obvious health benefits, I enjoy his company. Night walks are intimate; our conversations or companionable silences are deeper than during the day.
Tonight it was raining during our walk, a soft gentle rain at the end of a hot day. The rain and the darkness seemed to intensify smells. The fragrance of our Sweet Autumn clematis that drapes over the meadow fence was the most enjoyable. The smells that did NOT need to be intensified were wet dog (Samson) and skunk.
